Fear Not, I Will Help You!

Who is there who will give ear to this? Who will try to listen and read through these words? In the midst of these plagues we see today – depression, economic melt down, global recession, earthquakes, tsunami, wars, ethnic and religious conflicts, sicknesses as cancer, Ebola; etc – are you scared? In the midst of all the agony and the pain and the adversity, will you give up now?

It has been told that these omens will arise as the end of age draws near: “you will hear of wars and rumours of wars; see that you are not frightened or troubled, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.

“For nation will rise against nation (Palestine and Israel clash where thousands of both innocent and sinful souls have been swallowed by the ground), and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famine and earthquakes in place after place; All these are but the beginning of the birth pangs…” (Matthew 24:6-8), and the world is being consumed by this with dread and misery and despair already conquering people’s hearts.

As children of God (true believers), no matter the havoc and the calamity, the peace of the Lord must not forsake our hearts. For “God did not give us the Spirit of fear but of power, love and sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7), to withstand these storms of life in the world today.

Daily do we hear of murders, assassinations, rape, impacts of terrorism, suicides, afflictions and all, but these I tell you that “the Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him” (Psalm 34:7). “Fear not because of evil doers…for they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed” (Psalm 37:1-3).

“The Lord knows the days of upright and the blameless, and their heritage will abide forever. They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil; and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied…” (Psalm 37:18-19). “Behold, God is your helper and ally; the Lord is ‘your’ upholder (in the midst of trials)… He will pay back evil to ‘your’ enemies; and in His faithfulness will put an end to them for you” (Psalm 54:4-5).

Only “cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow (you) the righteous to be moved.” When you lay your all before the Lord and surrender to His will, He becomes “your Rock and Salvation; your Defense and Fortress, and you shall not be moved” (Psalm 62:6) whether the storms rage and your foes press harder.

The Lord has promised “not to cast you off nor send you away in the time of old age. He will not forsake you when your strength is spent and your powers fail”. “For in the day of trouble He will hide you in His shelter…He will set you high upon a rock. Although your earthly father and mother and even friends may forsake you when you need them the most, yet the Lord will take you up in His embrace as His child” (Psalm 27:5, 10).

The scare of Ebola and other viruses and diseases imbue the hearts of many with fright. However, “those who know their God shall be strong and do exploits” (Daniel 11:32), and the Lord will take away sickness from them (Deuteronomy 7:15). “He will deliver them from the snare of the fowler and from deadly pestilence… You shouldn’t be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arrows that fly by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise at noonday.

“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only a spectator shall you be… because you have made the Lord your refuge and the Most High your dwelling place…” (Psalm 91:3-16).

Dear reader, hear the word of the Lord to you today: Fear not, for I am with you; do not look around in terror and dismay, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My right hand… I am the Lord who says to you, fear not; I will help you! (Isaiah 41:10-13).

These are the promises of God in times like this and He will never give any room for you to doubt Him. Only that you believe, have faith in His word and fear not. “Even when the cords of sorrow are around you and the terror of death lay hold of you; call upon the name of the Lord, and He will deliver you from them all.” “For His mercy and loving-kindness are great towards us, and the truth and faithfulness of the Lord endure forever” (Psalm 117:2).

The weight of anguish and grief may be heavy upon you and your family, but in the name of Jesus you will cut them off! Sickness may pull you down, but the Lord will bring you up and make you stand. “You shall not die but live…” (Psalm 118:17) to declare the goodness and great deeds of the Lord in the land of the living. It is that you fear not!

Are you still scared? Then trust in the Lord, for He never fails. His words are ye and Amen, and He remains the same yesterday, today and forever (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8). His grace will keep you in life’s overwhelming gale; he will lead you through the vale of shadows and bear you over life’s fitful sea. And it is my prayer that when the gate of life eternal opens, may our names not be missing in the Book of Life (remembrance), so you and I may enter with the Lord.

The message of Apostle Paul to the church in Rome speaks to us all that, “the sufferings of this present time are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us…” whose hope is built on nothing else than in Jesus’ blood and righteousness.

Nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ even in times like this. “Shall suffering and affliction and tribulation? Or calamity and distress? Or persecution or hunger or peril or sword? Even as it is written… yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:18-37). Fear not!
