He fled from youthful passions
and lust; he knew God early in life and served no other but God Almighty alone.
His life was characterized by total confidence and reliance on the Creator and
not for once did he forsake the ordinances of the Lord.
As a reward, God made Daniel to
find favor, compassion and loving-kindness from top officials in Babylon
(Daniel 1:9), coupled with an amazing testimony that he (Daniel) and his three
Hebrew friends were ten times better
than all the magicians and enchanters who were in the whole of Babylon at the
reign of Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 1:19-20).
This is one powerful effect of
belief in God as seen in the lives of Daniel and his three friends. It did end
there. This belief carried them all throughout their lives and Chapter 3 of the
book of Daniel records a miracle that only belief in God could have wrought.
It’s the thrilling story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego; how they were bound
and thrown into a burning fiery furnace. Yet, their beliefs were activated and
God came to the rescue (Daniel 3:19-27).
In the text above, God through
Daniel shows how belief in Him and His power can salvage us when all hope seems
lost and the whole world conspire to plan our fall. “Then the Presidents and
Satraps sought to find occasion (to bring accusation) against Daniel concerning
the kingdom, but they could find no occasion or fault for he was faithful, nor
was there any error or fault found in him (Daniel 6:4).
A decree was established to ban
from asking petition from any god or man for thirty days, or face being thrown
in the den of lions. Even with this decree, Daniel didn’t forsake his
faithfulness and belief in the God of his fathers.
“He prayed three times daily
and gave thanks before his God”. He however was caught and made to face the
ultimate consequence – thrown into the den of lions. We should not here that
whatever decree man makes that doesn’t fall in line with the Word of God should
be handled with discretion and godly wisdom. And whatever happens, God has a
way of saving those who faithfully and diligently obey and trust His Word.
Miraculously, the Bible records
that God sent angels to shut the lions’ mouths so they couldn’t hurt Daniel
because he was innocent and blameless before God and man (Daniel 6:22). What
really saved him was revealed in verse 23: “So Daniel was taken out of the den,
and no hurt of any kind was found on him because he believed in God.
Belief in God saved the Hebrew
men from the fiery furnace; it rescued Daniel from the den of lions; the
Israelites from Egypt saw the power of belief at the Red Sea; through belief
the sun stood still for Joshua; blind Bartimeaus experienced what belief can
do; the Apostle bore witness to the power of belief; even our Lord Jesus Christ
implores us to hold on to it, giving His life as an example. But there is one
thing belief can’t really do. I tell you, it’s nothing!
“All things are possible to
them that believe” (Mark 9:23; 11:23-24). This statement made by Christ remains
valid and true till date. Charles Wesley, A.W. Tozer, Leonard Ravenhill, Smith
Wigglesworth, Martin L. King, Ray Stedman, Billy Graham, Finney, and other
extraordinary men of God (with those alive inclusive) who impacted the world
for God had belief even at the point they breathe their last.
If belief in God could do all
these miracles and even more, now I ask, what can’t belief do? “Truly I tell
you, whoever says to this mountain (problems, sickness, barrenness, depression,
agony, etc.) be lifted up and thrown into the sea! And does not doubt at all in
his or her heart but believes that what he or she says
will take place, it will be done foe him or her.”
Why not activate your faith
this moment and believe in the saving and mighty power of God to turn your
trials and tests into testimonies. Speak to your problems, pains, woes and to
the devil today, stand on the Word and promises of God and know this for sure
that “there can only be miracle if you believe”. What is the one thing belief
can’t do? I tell you again, nothing! Nothing!! Absolutely nothing!!!
